Edwards quits presidential race

Another one bites the dust.

CNN) — Former Sen. John Edwards dropped out of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination on Wednesday.
“It is time for me to step aside so that history can blaze its path,” Edwards said in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Edwards said he couldn’t predict “who will take the final steps to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.,” but he said it will be a Democrat.

“We must do better if we want to live up to the promise of this country we love so much,” he said.

Earlier, an Edwards aide said the candidate was not getting the media attention he needed to get his message out and win delegates, especially with races coming up in 22 states next Tuesday.

Edwards has amassed 26 delegates for the Democratic nomination.

Campaign money was not an issue, the aide said.
